Yr 4/5 Excursion

The Sugar Industry

On Tuesday the 4/5 class went to the Farleigh Sugar Mill.  We had to bring a long T Shirt and a long pair of jeans.  I thought it was very fascinating.  We got to taste molasses, sugar and molasses that people made.  I liked the mill.  Some day I want to go back to the mill.  It was cool!  Well it was actually hot!!!

The Trip To Greenmount

After we went to the mill, we went for a visit to Greenmount.  I also enjoyed Greenmount.  I learnt a lot.  I thought it was interesting.  We saw Maggie’s room.  Her bed was so small, the floor was made of dirt and cement and I think she was the maid. I LOVE TO LEARN ABOUT THE LOCAL AREA……

The Sugar Industry

On Tuesday 5th September the whole year 4/5 class went on an excursion to the Farleigh Sugar Mill.  We put on glasses,  helmets and ear plugs.  We watched the bin being tipped into a hole.  It was cool.  We went up and down, up and over, across and left and right.  I even saw my Uncle there.  It was so exciting!  At the Sugar Terminal, we saw THE MOST SUGAR YOU COULD EVER WANT THERE!  There were four huge sheds they held 70050 tonnes of sugar.  They were massive.  If they put too much sugar on the ship it would snap in half.

Greenmount

We looked in all the rooms in Greenmount’s Homestead.  It was amazing.  We saw hats, pots, pans, and jewellery.  We even saw the toys they made in that house.  It was all so fascinating.  The scooters in those days were made out of wood…

The Bulk Sugar Terminal

When we went to the bulk sugar place there was a lot of sugar.  We weren’t allowed to go out of the bus.  The sugar sheds were massive.  There were no rats there either.

We could see the trucks that were getting emptied and all of the pipes that the sugar got carried in.

Then we went to the loading dock and saw the boat that carries the sugar all over the place.

There sure was a lot of sugar in that shed……….by Dexter Edmonds

Text Box: Greenmount Homestead
The other day was really fun. Only the year 4/5 went on a bit MASSIVE day. All day we were going in and out of the bus.
The Cook’s house was still there after 92 years, but some of the wood has been replaced. The ceiling was made of pressed metal. WHO! The oldest thing in the house is the oak table. All the rooms are opened to a verandah because it keeps all the rooms cool. There was a room called Maggie’s room. It was outside. The house outside was a little tin shack. The bed was made of steel. There was a floor but it was dirt. That was the best excursion ever!.............
