Parents
& Citizens’ Assn meets 3rd Monday of each month at
NEW IMPROVED WEB SITE: Yes, we’re back “on air” after a longer than expected period while our school’s website was being upgraded.
Our new webpage will give us a much improved capacity to display photos and other material of interest to parents, students and the wider community alike.
From today you’ll again be able to read the newsletter on-line and view a selection of new (eg Medieval Madness) and older photos of school activities.
Over the coming weeks we’ll be inserting and/or updating material into all the links as listed on the home page, so keep exploring www.hampdenss.eq.edu.au at regular intervals.
MEDIEVAL MADNESS: This was a fabulous morning of right-royal activities which was embraced by all participants in the spirit in which it was meant.
Congratulations to everyone involved, is al I have to say here, as I know “Lady Helen” has much more to say (as ladies do!??) in her newsletter insert about that morning and about the Bookfair.
Thank-you for your organisation of such a great Education Week celebration, Helen.
RITA RETURNS! Well rested after almost a semester of lone service leave, Rita Nicol will be back “on the beat” from Tuesday.
Welcome back, Rita!
Rita’s return does have a down side, however namely the redundancy of Talia Kruger. Talia has done a terrific job in her replacement aide role and I wish to thank her for performing her duties here with such dedication and effectiveness over these past five months. Hopefully we haven’t seen the last of her though.
INTERVIEWS/REPORTS: A final reminder that reports will be distributed this Wednesday, with parent-teacher interviews to begin the following day (year 7’s). Most other interviews will take place on Tuesday 20th June however, and appointment forms will be provided by Bronwyn in the very near future.
I encourage all families to take advantage of this opportunity to visit the school to discuss your childrens progress with their teachers, view work and test samples, and generally interchange information to further enhance their educational opportunities.
ROCK POP MIME SHOW: We have just received information that this year’s show will be held on 26 August. Other details are to be forwarded to schools shortly.
Although these timelines are relatively short I’m sure we could do justice to an entry, and I’m equally certain we have the combined talent “out there” to formulate and co-ordinate a production, and that we have the students willing to participate in our ranks.
So come on all you “old” rockers, if you’ve got some ideas for an item and are willing to be a part of this year’s RPM team, please let us know. “Don’t die with the music in you”!!
Howard Frost
Principal.

MEDICATION FORMS: As mentioned a fortnight ago, Education Regulations regarding the administration of medicine at schools have been recently revised and a stricter set of guidelines has been developed.
The new authority form devised by the school has only minor changes from that previously used, however the requirements outlined above it must be strictly adhered to or medication can not be given to children by staff.
THONGS: This week we have had two minor injuries resulting from children slipping in the wet whilst wearing rubber thongs.
Thongs are not considered suitable footwear for school and it is requested that they not be worn.
WALKATHON: How are those collections going? We’d like all forms returned by Monday 19 June so we can do our prize draws before the holidays. Who knows, you might be the winner of a new “toy” to play with!
H.R.E. LETTERS: Information for parents of years 5, 6 & 7 students concerning the sexuality component of our H.R.E. program was distributed this week. Parents wishing to withdraw children from any of the topics to be covered should use the form attached or contact the school for further information.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” – Emerson.

Our very busy and productive term is quickly drawing to an end. Next Friday June 16th, will be the final preschool day for Term 2.
Week 10 is a short preschool week, that is students would normally attend on Thursday and Friday, however the Mackay Show Public Holiday is on Thursday June 22nd. Friday June 23rd is a preschool student free day. On the alst day of each semester we are required to thoroughly clean the preschool. For the health of our preschoolers we clean all furniture, mats and play equipment. Any helping hands would be greatly appreciated on this day.
Preschool will resume in Term 3 on Wednesday 12 July.

FROM THE 4/5 CLASSROOM
The children will present their necklaces to the school at the end of parade on Monday 19th June. Each child will give a very brief speech on their necklace and display their creations. All Mums and Dads are welcome to come along.

In Term 3 we will be studying INVENTIONS. We need any old, small appliances that you no longer need that would be suitable for the children to pull apart. Old clocks, kitchen appliances, radios etc. could be great. Could you please send them into the Year 4/5 room instead of sending them to the rubbish dump. Thanks!

“Enter the
Medieval Mayhem at
Hampden
Sincere thanks to the
many members of our community who made the morning of Medieval Mayhem such a
success. The children looked fabulous in their finery (the staff scrubbed up
pretty well too) and had plenty of fine food to feast on.
Thanks to the families
who helped out on the day and some special people who gave so freely of their
time to make the occasion even more memorable for us all:
v Julie Burns
who created a wonderful cut-out board for the children to have character photos
taken;
v Mrs Rhoda Wenck who coached the budding bowlers;
v Rosemary and
Hannah Shanks who entertained us with their beautiful recorder repertoire; and
v Tammy Stone
(Sensory Circus Tribe) who taught us some wonderful acrobatic skills.
And, though some found
it all too gruesome, thanks are also due to Kuttabul Butchery for the Pig’s
Head centerpiece on the banquet table!
The stocks
lent by Shane Moloney for the day were also appreciated although the children
didn’t quite understand until Friar Frost
explained they were the medieval equivalent of the modern day footy “sin bin”.
Book Fair 2006
Book
Fair is drawing to a close and your generous support so far looks set to give
the school’s reading resources a real boost. Thank you!
Book
Fair sales will close officially on Friday afternoon though purchases may be
made up to and including Tuesday 13 June.
The
“Wish List” and “Lucky Door Prize” draws will take place on Wednesday 14 Jun. One
lucky student and one lucky parent, who visited our Book Fair, will have the
chance to choose any item from the fair (to the value of $20) before it is
packed up and shipped off for another year.
