PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

ACTIVE AFTER SCHOOL:  Term 2’s program kicked off last Tuesday with “Circus”, to an enthusiastic response.  Hoola hoops, parachute activities, balancing and co-operation activities were all hits with the participants.

This coming week we commence Multi-Skill Games on Monday, with Circus continuing on Tuesdays.

Multi-Skill Games will be provided by Stephanie Cruickshanks and Karen Gee, who have my greatest admiration for the leading role these two parents have taken in a wide range of sports benefiting our children.

Both Stephanie and Karen have voluntarily completed a weekend Community Coach Training Course, followed by on-line course modules, to gain their accreditation to facilitate Active After School Programs, and are now offering their services free of charge for these activities.

Multi-Skill Games are activities used to generate a fun, safe, inclusive and challenging environment where children can achieve success while developing skills for sports.

TESTING WEEK:  Please see the item on page 4 concerning the new National Testing Program which will operate next week.

Special class arrangements and variations to routine will apply on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday while these year 3, 5 and 7 tests are undertaken.

SPORTS PRACTICES:  Hampden’s Sports Day is now only three weeks away (Friday 30 May) and from Tuesday we’ll be commencing practices in preparation for the “big day”, and at the same time fulfilling our obligations to the government’s “Smart Moves” initiative.

Children are required to bring a note signed by a parent if they have a genuine reason for not participating.

A special thanks-you to Julie Burns and Lorraine Insch for screen-printing our sports shirts again this year.

MOTHER’S DAY 2008:  Mums are indeed special people, looking after and loving those closest to them, 24-7!

Amazingly, Mums even find time to help out in a myriad of ways at school, and where would we be without them?

Your help is valued here at school, Mums, as I’m sure your love and support is cherished at home.

Make sure you take time out to be pampered this Sunday, your special day!

Howard Frost

Principal.

SCHOOL NEWS

BLACK & WHITE DAY:  Next Friday 16 May is BLACK and WHITE DAY, where the students are encouraged to come to school wearing black and white for a small donation.

Black and White Day is the Student Council’s term 2 free dress day, with all proceeds going to help save the Tassie Devils.

TOUCH FOOTBALL TRIALS:  Two Hampden boys were selected for the Probables V Possibles game, but unfortunately neither were selected in the final team at yesterday’s Mackay trials.

Never-the-less the boys and girls representing our school performed very well and received glowing praise for their sportsmanship and skills.

A special thank-you to Stephanie Cruickshanks and Karen Gee for coaching the squad and officiating at yesterday’s event.

SCHOOL CAMP UPDATE:  We now have 43 children “signed up” for camp, along with 11 parents!  What a remarkable response!!

YEAR 7 SHIRTS:  The design has arrived back from the printers and been given the “green light”.

Year 7’s wishing to have their shirts printed will require their shirts (clearly named) and $8 to be brought to the office within the next fortnight.

C.W.A. COMPETITION:  Classes have been busy completing their Mongolia projects as this year’s CWA country of study.

All tasks are required to be completed by Monday, ready for collection later in the week.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

“From what we get we can make a living; what we give, however makes a life”.  Arthur Ashe

EEC NEWS

Hello Everyone

Our worms have laid eggs!  We’ve watched the antlions trapping and eating ants!  The ant farm is established but a few of the ants have escaped and the others are looking a little sluggish!

After reading ‘Islands In My Garden’ by Jim Howes and Roland Harvey we have begun to establish some ‘islands in our classroom’.  So far Worm Island is working well as a mini ecosystem and so is Antlion Island.  We hope our ants will settle into life on the farm soon!

Mothers are another focus for our learning this week as we look forward to celebrating Mothers’ Day with them this Sunday.  We would all like to say ‘thank you’ to the wonderful mothers who find the time in their busy lives to help in our classroom

Our Year Ones have listed and described some of their mums’ features that make them different to every other mum.

P & C NEWS

Reminder:  The next P & C monthly meeting will be held on Monday May, commencing at 7.30pm.  All welcome.

Footy Bars:  Firstly, I’d like to thank everyone that has helped at the football bars so far, but I am still looking for more people to help so that I don’t have to ask the same people all the time.  If you can spare a couple of hours on Saturday afternoon or evening please let me know and I can add you on the roster.  It’s easy work and is quite enjoyable as well.  We start at 3pm this week and finish about 9pm.  – Karen Gee
