Parents
& Citizens’ Assn meets 3rd Monday of each month at

REPORTING TO PARENTS: As you are aware, the introduction of the plain simple English reporting template with the 5 point A-E scale is now a mandatory requirement for all schools to fully implement from Semester One 2007.
Later in the year a group of trial schools, including Hampden, will use another slightly different format again. This new version will streamline the process even further.
When reports go home at the end of this term they will have been entered into each teacher’s computer in a M_S Word format (if all goes to plan!!)
Because of the
time required for these changes associated with the new format and the
computerisation aspects, parent-teacher interviews will be conducted shortly
after the mid year vacation this year.
SCHOOL CAMP: Towards the end of the forthcoming June/July
vacation I will be attending a 2 day orientation period at
What I will try
to ascertain prior to the vacation however, is the number of parents also
wishing to accompany us to
Look out for our first official camp newsletter next week.
SPORTS DAYS: The weather has thrown preparations for our Hampden Sports Days this coming week into a bit of turmoil, however at this stage with the sun now shining again, we hope to stick to our original timetable.
The 800m and discus events are still scheduled for Wednesday morning with all other events to be conducted on Friday.
Our tuckshop volunteers are “going shopping” this Wednesday, so please have all orders back by Tuesday to assist them in this regard.
Rather than dampen our spirits, the rain will make this year’s Sports Day one of the most picturesque ever. So come along for a wonderful “outdoor experience”!

Principal

LITERACY NEWS: Literacy underpins every stage and subject of learning at school and for the rest of a student’s life.
Books are central to this success, so for the second year the Premier is launching the Premier’s Reading Challenge to boost the number of books students are reading and encourage more challenging texts.
Between now and 7 September 2007, children from Prep to Year 2 will be encouraged to read or experience 20 books through listening to stories, shared reading or reading picture books. Year 3 to Year 5 students are encouraged to read 20 books.
Every student who meets the challenge will be rewarded with a certificate and schools with the highest number of participants will be invited to attend an official ceremony later this year.
SEMESTER 2 LOTE: Year 6/7 students should by now have provided their parents with their “LOTE Option” forms for next semester.
Please return these when you are comfortable with your decision.
ROCK-POP-MIME: Do you have any suggestions for our 2007 entry? If so, please let us know.
TERM 2 DISCO: Tonight’s disco begins at 6.30 with a sausage sizzle. Don’t let the weather dampen your enthusiasm!
H.R.E. PROGRAM: We intend to begin the sexuality component of the upper school’s Human Relationships Program next term.
In preparation for this, letters have been given to all students in years 5, 6 and 7 outlining the program and its method of operation.
CONGRATULATIONS
This award celebrates outstanding sporting achievement and commendable sporting behaviour.
You’re a great role model for us all, Tara!

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
It took me 17 years to get 3,000 hits in baseball. I did it in one afternoon on the golf course.

The children from Prep Year One have been practising their ball games skills (in between showers and storms). On sports Day the children will be involved in long jump, ‘high jump’, a relay, sprints and ball games.
Week ten (the last week of term) has been declared ‘Pet Week’. The children have been invited to bring along their pets and talk to the class about how they take care of them. If your child is able to bring a pet, please ring first to let us know it is coming to visit!
As the term draws to a close, I would like to thank our parent helpers once again for their assistance with Literacy and Numeracy groups, and Home Reading. I would also like to thank our teacher aides, Miss Dittman and Mrs Nicol for their support in (and out) of the classroom).

A Message from Education
Prep Parent/Caregiver survey
Parents and caregivers of children in Prep this year have the chance to share their thoughts on this year’s Prep implementation with the Department of Education, Training and the Arts.
A short, paper-based survey for Prep parents is currently underway.
Being distributed this week by schools, it forms part of the Department’s ongoing monitoring of the Prep implementation in 2007.
Responses will be returned to a third party for scanning and will not be opened by the school. Data collected will be used at a state level.
Survey responses are confidential and should be inserted in the accompanying enveloped before being returned to the school.
As the parents of the first intake into the universally-available Prep Year, all Prep parents are encouraged to complete the survey.
Envelopes
containing the surveys should be returned by Friday 15 June to the school,
which will then forward them to HPA Outsourced Business Services for analysis.
