PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

HAMPDEN SPORTS DAY, 2008:  Thanks for your attendance at our annual inter-house sports day last Friday, and for your participation in the novelty events.  A wonderful atmosphere of enjoyment, and satisfaction at personal achievement, prevailed.  And talk about a colourful spectacle!

I would like also to add a special note of thanks to all those who assisted in any way on the day, whether in the tuckshop, cooking the barbecue, on the oval measuring or raking, or packing up afterwards.  Without your help the day couldn’t be as special as it always is.

Congratulations to Pythons House for making it a clean sweep again this year, although they didn’t have it all their own way in either the relays or ball games.  Thus heartened, Taipans and Cobras will be out to take these trophies next year!

Congratulations also to all our age champions and over-all champions for your outstanding efforts, and also to every other competitor for giving your best efforts at all times.  It certainly made choosing the Encouragement Award very difficult for the staff again this year.

And on the subject of overall champions, due to an oversight we actually had a 3-way tie for the overall boy champion with Nicholas Perna also achieving 19 points.  Thanks to Ray and Shirley Watt all three will receive a lovely trophy now.

With the Calen Sub-District Sports Days to take place this coming Tuesday and Friday, all our sporting efforts will now be focussed on preparing for these.  You’ll find all the details later in this newsletter.

ADULT COMPUTER COURSES:  As mentioned last week the Hail Creek Mine sponsored adult computer courses have now come to an end after running for the best part of 12 months.

I would like to pay tribute not only to the many community members who availed themselves of this opportunity to improve their personal skills in the various courses on offer, but particularly to our Hampden staff members who also attended.

Zoe Burns, Rita Nicol, Iris Thomas, Sue Wales and Bronwyn Wiseman have all been shining examples of our school motto “Learning for Life” and demonstrating that education doesn’t necessarily stop when you leave the school gates after year 12.
