PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE:

Ready; Set; Read!  The “Challenge” has commenced and each child has been given a sheet to use as their reading log/record, as well as an explanatory letter outlining the details of the P.R.C.

Perhaps we’ll be able to send two more of our avid readers off to Brisbane to collect an award again this year??

One thing is for certain however, everyone who increases the amount they read will be a “winner”.

2007 SCHOOL ANNUAL REPORT:  It’s that time of year again when state schools begin publishing their annual reports on their web sites.

Hampden’s report is now available on the web, or alternatively paper copies are available on request at the front office.

GREEN & HEALTHY!  Keep Australia Beautiful judge John Pickup spent almost 3 hours at Hampden last Thursday talking with staff and students as they showcased a cross-section of new projects and notable ongoing activities.

John was impressed with Hampden’s environment and the active nature of the children, along with the very high level of parent involvement in the school.

Competition winners will be announced alter in the year.

HAMPDEN SPORTS 2008:  If Tuesday’s 800m and discus events are any indication to go by, then we should be in for an excellent day’s competition at our main sports day tomorrow.

Participation was 100%, with effort and sportsmanship equally impressive, and a genuine desire to achieve well for their respective house teams was evident from all children.

Our Hampden inter-house sports days are meant to provide for maximum pupil participation in a friendly, carnival-type atmosphere.  So come along and enjoy the day, and remember that you too may go home with a ribbon if you’re victorious in one of our novelty parent events!

SCHOOL NEWS

McDONALD’S MATHS CHALLENGE:  Our teams were very good ambassadors for the school at yesterday’s event, both at North Mackay High and at Macca’s later!

No doubt the experience will be beneficial in shaping their future attitudes towards maths, and in raising their awareness of the many different types of maths problems and their complexities.

ARTS COUNCIL:  A reminder that the term 2 performance “Grovin-as-we-saurus” (on next Thursday 05 June) will only cost each student $3 instead of the usual $6.

C.W.A. INTERNATIONAL DAY:  Thank-you to Kimberley and Tiffaney Wales, and Andrea and Jordan Perna who represented our school at short notice at this event on Monday.  A special thanks also to Rita for transporting the girls to Calen for the morning’s activities.

SCHOOL SPORTS SHIRTS:  An order is currently being processed for more of our new sports shirts in the sizes sold out, however delivery is not expected for several more weeks yet.

ADULT COMPUTER COURSE:  After almost a year of Tuesday night courses the Hail Creek Mine funding for these has now run out.

“Certificates of Attendance” are available from the school for all attendees.

THANKS SHANE:  Shane Thompson has spent many Saturdays recently installing our school’s new interactive whiteboard and other data and electrical fixtures.

Thanks for a job well done Shane!

FLASH DRIVES FOR STUDENTS:  With the increasing role computer technology is playing in curriculum areas it has become evident that a USB storage device would be beneficial to many upper school students.  These “flash drives” allow for quick and easy transfer of data between home and school computers.

The school has purchased 50 of these drives for pupil use, however a deposit of $5 is requested which will be fully refunded upon the return of the drive when the student has finished with it.

CHUMPS TO CHAMPS:  Last year our combined Marian-Hampden rugby league team could hardly win a game, but this season it’s been a different story:  The boys have hardly lost a game!!

Congratulations on your terrific season boys, making it all the way to the preliminary final before being beaten by Fitzgerald.

A real “State of Origin” performance.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

It is not only what we do, but also what we do not do, for which we are accountable.  John Baptiste Moliere

P & C NEWS

Apologies for the last of correspondence but like everyone I have been very busy.  The first State of Origin football game was a very quiet night, at the school BIG Screening, with only a couple of people showing up.  For the second (must win) match, come down and view the game on the library projector big screen and cheer the maroons to a resounding victory.  The school sports are this Friday and I would like to thank everyone that helped, from the tuckshop ladies to the parents and teachers that helped train and organise the kids.  The school sports day is always a good day for all involved especially the kids, so come down and show your support and enjoy the day.  Hope to see you there.  GO THE TAIPANS.

Cheers

Rex Munchow

P & C Secretary

GROUNDSCARE NEWS

Principal Howard has done well with preparing the oval for the sports day tomorrow, but this wouldn’t look as well presented if the rest of the school grounds didn’t shape up, so a thank-you goes to our May roster mowing group – Darren and Bobette Lisle and Andrew and Carol Patchett.  Go the RED, YELLOW & BLUES!!!  The June/July roster group is Greg Dwyer and Mike & Annette Medway.

Thanks also to Frank and Chris Perna for their on-going maintenance/repairs to our mowers.
