PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

PRESIDENT’S REPORT:  Today I’m taking a back seat to allow room for the P & C President’s Report for 2007, as presented at our A.G.M.

The P & C’s operations at Hampden are widely recognised around the Education Region as being highly effective both administratively and in the outcomes provided for our children.

It gives me great pleasure to reproduce President Frank Perna’s report for you today.

Howard Frost

Principal.

SCHOOL NEWS

HAIL CREEK COMPUTER COURSE:  We’re taking a break this coming Tuesday 04 March with a new program commencing on the 11th.

See the Community Notices and the inserted program for more details.

NEW PARTICIPANTS ARE WELCOME.

ARTS COUNCIL VISIT:  “Banana Joe” will be with us on Wednesday morning for an exciting (and loud?) musical experience with a difference!

See the attached payment/permission envelope for more details and information.

FREE DRESS DAY  Thank-you for your generous support of today’s Free Dress event which was held by the Student Council in support of Mackay’s flood victims.

Congratulations to our 8 students who collected prizes donated for our appeal.

CUTTERS VISIT: Well the rain kept the Cowboys from our part of the state, however thanks to Rugby League Development Officer Brad Henry we were still able to gain some inspiration from two of the Mackay Cutters players, including none other than the player-coach!

I hope everyone was listening when he said that to be a successful rugby player you also had to be successful at school!!

EASTER HAMPER RAFFLE:  With only 3 weeks until Easter it’s time to start up our annual Easter Hamper again.

Please send along to school any donations of items you think may be appropriate for this Easter hamper.

CROSS COUNTRY:  With the wet weather persisting we will need to continue training for cross-country as time is slipping away.

Children in the upper grades are encouraged to bring a change of old clothes (and shoes?) to slip into for our afternoon Smart Moves sessions to save their uniforms from becoming mud-splattered.

EEC NEWS

The Prep-One class have been working very well for Mrs Loo this week while Mrs Medway has been attending her Literacy In-Service Course.

Our usual EEC report will return next week.

FOOTBALL BARS

Unfortunately, due to the wet weather, the Cowboys game has been cancelled.  It is very disappointing knowing what we are missing out on, but people’s safety must be the first priority.  We are still doing the Cutters bars though and fingers crossed for some fine weather.  Our first one will be on Saturday 29th March.  A roster for parent helpers including the season draw will go home next week in the newsletter.

GROUNDSCARE NEWS

The draft 2008 mowing roster is included in this newsletter and the response to our call for volunteers has been the best in years!  Thank-you to all of you.

If I’ve missed you out please give the school a ring as I had a few names passed on to me which may have been for either tuckshop or mowing (or both!) and I may not have got these right.

Also, there are still a few openings for volunteers which will help ease the load on others. Again, please call the school if you can help.

Finally, don’t forget the general working bee on Sunday 09 March.  More on that next week.

Kathy Frost

Co-ordinator

CLASSROOM ROUND-UP

With the election of the 2008 student Council Executive occurring next week the Year 7’s and 6’s have been on the hustings with electioneering posters and speeches being produced.  Here are some examples:

Good morning, my name is Cody Morrison and I am running for president.  I think I would make a good president because I am a great leader and I am a responsible student.

If I was elected President I would listen to what every student has to say, whether it would be fundraising, new soccer goals, or shade over our basketball courts, or just new ideas to help teachers and students in the classroom.

Moreover, as president I not only will be representing students, I will also be representing teachers, parents and the whole community.

I would be proud to be a leader in 2008.  I always try and do everything to the best of my ability in and out of school.  I show great sportsmanship on the sporting fields and in the classroom, setting a good example to all fellow students and classmates.

That’s why I think I should be president.  REMEMBER VOTE #1 CODY MORRISON FOR PRESIDENT.

BEN

If you elect me as your president I will help the school raise money so you can get more enjoyment while playing sports.

I am all the things that you need as your president as I enjoy helping and working with people and making the school a better place to play and work in.  Furthermore I am smart and I am a really good leader.

I have had god experience and that is another thing that will make me a good president.  I can work in with people and welcome new girls and boys into the school.

Therefore if you elect me as president I can guarantee that we can make the school a better place.

Vote 1, Ben Wales for President.

Good morning parents, teachers, girls and boys.  Today I will be telling you about the reasons why I should be voted for as the school’s new PRESIDENT, but if you fail to vote me in I will be running for TREASURER.

You should vote me in as president because I try my best in everything and it pays off in the end.  Furthermore I will get the jobs done that need to be done, and it will all be money wise.  I like helping people and it will always make me feel good about the decision you will have all made that puts me in this good position.

My goals for the school are:

1.  I will try to have more free dress days.

2.  I will try to have more bad hair days.

3.  I will have more fundraisers.

These are just a few of the things I will try to do around the school.  If you decide that I am not the person that you think is right for the job of president then I hope you will still vote me in as treasurer.  The fact is that I am great at math, and working with numbers is what I like to do.  Surely you can see that I am the person who is right for the job of treasurer.

No matter what decision that you make I will be 100% behind it.  But I will admit I will be disappointed if I don’t get either of my electives.

Thank you for listening to what I had to say.

Jordan Perna
