PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

ANZAC DAY:  Without a doubt the crowd at Wednesday’s Anzac Day Service was the biggest yet, and left no-one in any doubt as to the special significance the day holds for the members of the Kuttabul community as a whole.

It was great to see our Kuttabul service receive a good coverage by the media this year, both before and after the event, and hopefully this will encourage even more along in 2008!

Thank-you to all our parents who brought their children along again this year.  I know it’s no easy task organising a family of young children to be out of the house before 5.00am!!  But I’m sure you’ll agree it was worth it!  The whole school sang beautifully, and the choir’s “Drunken Sailor” put the icing on the cake at the finish!

Out on the oval the kids were again able to move the sailors (and the ute!!) in the tug-o-war, but the oldies were too good in the cabbage ball events!  Thank-you everyone for joining in the fun.

The weather was magic this year, and the grounds looked magical to match.  Thank-you to the Mackenzie and Patchett families for their terrific work in this regard, and also to Iris Thomas our tireless cleaner.

And it you think 2007 was good, there promises to be something really special arranged for Anzac Day 2008!

DE-ANNE KELLY VISIT:  Mrs Kelly was very impressed with our school and our student councillors when she visited last Friday.

After presenting us with a new flag, Mrs Kelly made the presentation of Student Council badges to this year’s executive, shook hands with the ‘shadow’ executive and announced additional funding for the school, before adjourning to the library for morning tea served by the students.

Thank-you to tuckshop convenor Cheryl Barratt for co-ordinating this morning tea, and to the other parents who contributed the “goodies” which were consumed eagerly – especially by the students after the officials departed!!

P & C president Frank Perna and the other parents able to be present deserve acknowledgement for making their time available to talk to De-Anne about local issues.

SCHOOL NEWS

FAREWELL:  Sadly we’re saying goodbye to the Rogers family today, as they leave Kuttabul for life “in town”.

We wish Cory-Lee and Tina, along with parents Anita and Colin, all the best for the future, and hope to see them back on regular visits.

CROSS COUNTRY TRIALS:  The sub-district trials at Seaforth are now less than a week away, so I trust all permission forms are being returned to Sue Wales.

It’s great to see the enthusiasm still evident in our athletes as they train each morning.

We have just been notified that Seaforth WILL NOT be operating a TUCKSHOP next Thursday, so all attending will need to take along their own food and drinks.

LIQUID PAPER:  As more year 7’s obtain their “pen licences” and are able to write with biros, it seems timely to remind everyone that only dry erase tape is allowed at school for correcting errors in ink.

“Liquid Paper”, “White-Out”, and other liquid forms of correction fluid are not permitted, whether in bottle or pen forms.

SELECTION SUCCESS:  Congratulations to Michael Volker who was selected in the Calen District tennis team last week.

SPORTS SHIRTS FOR PRINTING:  As per last week’s newsletter item, we will be printing sports shirts with the Cobras, Taipans and Pythons logos on the back if required.

Please have shirts to school by May 18 (clearly named) if printing is required.

EEC NEWS

Hello Everyone

We continued with traditional tales this week talking about where the stories were set, who the characters were and whether they were portrayed as good or bad.  We also talked about the different parts of the stories – what happened first, next, and last.

Year ones wrote a list of sandpit tools so we can keep track of them all after lunchtimes!

Our Prep children went mining in the sandpit and built a house and a pool for mermaids.

Today we designed and built our own Prep family house with bedroom, kitchen, dining room, office, bathroom, and dog and chook pens (for the scraps).  Somewhere in the forest near the house is a rocket ship but we need to follow a map to get there.  At the moment we are busily drawing maps and writing shopping lists and the phone is ringing!

It was wonderful to see so many children from Prep and Year One at our ANZAC Day event.  Thank you for coming everyone.

The Best Anzac Day Ever

On the 25/4/07 Hampden State School had its Anzac Day at the school.  Hundreds of people came.

When we got there we had to walk to the oval and had to march to the memorial garden.  It was hard to march because it was dark.

In the garden we went to the steps and sang while people laid wreaths.  When the song was finished we had 2 minutes silence and a man started talking.

Next we had a yummy breakfast which included damper, Anzac biscuits and a sausage sizzle.  I had most of that.

Then we had to go under the building to listen to a speech that people were saying.  Then we sang fun songs and the year 6/7 done poems and the choir sang a song and I was in it.

That was the best Anzac day I’d been to for a long time but I was very tired from waking up early.

ANZAC DAY

On the 25th April 2007 I went to a ceremony called the Anzac Day ceremony.

At the start all the people marched around the school and into the Remembrance Garden.

The wreaths were laid and a song was sung called Lest We Forget.

After that  I had breakfast. I had damper and Anzac biscuits.

After that we had more singing… not all that bad.  I’m glad that it was done in 5 mins.  PHEW.  That’s all over and done with.

We had a game called tug-o-war.  Kids won twice and sailors won twice.  The sailors tied the rope to a car!

There was a cabbage tunnel ball game.  It was fun!  After a cabbage fight commenced.  I got hit about 15 times.
