PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

L.O.T.E. DECISIONS:  Thank-you for your input at Monday’s P & C discussions on the topic of LOTE for 2008.

As expected there were people in all ‘camps’, some expressing a desire to keep the teaching of Japanese language, others declaring it a waste of time, whilst others were in favour of a choice between cultural studies and Japanese.

At next week’s meeting of cluster schools’ principals some sort of consensus will have to be formulated for presentation to Regional Office.

I’ll keep you informed.

EDUCATION WEEK:  This coming week is Education Week ’07 and as usual we will be holding a Book Fair in the EEC withdrawal room to highlight the importance of Literacy in education.  Please read Helen’s flyer on this and come along for a look.

C.W.A. COMPETITION:  Congratulations to the many children who received recognition for their “Denmark” posters, projects, drawings, etc when the CWA ladies visited for a special presentation on Monday morning.  (A full list is published later in this newsletter.)

We all had a pleasant (and educational) morning and enjoyed some traditional CWA hospitality as well, in the form of morning tea!

Howard Frost

Principal.

SCHOOL NEWS

SPORTS UPDATE:  Sports House Captains and Vice-Captains were due to be elected this afternoon, and we’ll provide these election results next week.

A reminder that our school sports days will be held on Wednesday 13 June (discus and 800m) and Friday 15 June (main day).

MARIAN VISIT:  Our 4-7 students had an enjoyable sporting exchange with Mirani last Friday, with all teams being very competitive with their older rivals.

QUESTACON:  Don’t forget that the children received free passes to the full range of Questacon science shows and exhibits at the PCYC tonight and tomorrow.  They’re well worth a visit.

GOOD LUCK DEXTER:  We wish Dexter Edmonds well as he leaves for Calliope soon for the Capricornia Cross-Country trials.

It would be great to see a Hampden student in the State Trials!

EEC NEWS

Hello Everyone,

Some wonderful constructions this week from our useful box – a house, an X-ray machine, a doll made from boxes, and a digger.  Well done Prep students.

Year One made some interesting entries in their new dairies, and have been observing, investigating and practising their reading strategies.

Prep Year One received some new sports equipment this week.  We are looking forward to practising our throwing and catching, rolling, aiming and bouncing skills with a variety of balls of different sizes, shapes and textures.
