PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

LEADERSHIP PRESENTATIONS:  Mrs Jan Jarratt was very impressed with our Year 7’s when she visited us on Tuesday to present Student Council and Sports Captain badges.  The children were respectful on parade and well mannered during their special brunch up in the library afterwards.

Mrs Jarratt was also impressed with the school and commented that it was very evident that we have great parent support here.  Perhaps it was the delicious food supplied by Barb Perna and her parent volunteers that coloured her judgement?!!!  Thank-you to those who contributed, and to everyone able to be in attendance to make the time ‘special’ for the children.

ACTIVE AFTER SCHOOL:  In the next few days children will bring home enrolment forms for the Term 2 offerings for this enjoyable and beneficial program.

The activities on offer this term will now be MULTI SKILL GAMES on MONDAY afternoons, and CIRCUS SKILLS on TUESDAY afternoons, and will be offered to children in years 1 to 7.  (We anticipate including the prep children in the terms 3 and 4 activities.)

There will be NO activities this coming week however, with Circus Skills starting on Tuesday 06 May, and Multi Skill Games on Monday 12 May.

ANZAC DAY:

“Every year we remember

  In Aril and November…”

These first two lines from one of the songs the children sing during the wreath laying ceremony on Anzac Day help reinforce the importance of this time to reflect on the sacrifices made by our service men and women over many generations, and this is both right and necessary to commemorate the 25th April in a way that reflects the Anzac spirit.

Anzac Day at Hampden goes further than the official ceremony however, with guests sharing their powerful stories and experiences and the students being able to display their appreciation and feelings through speaking and singing.

Of course one of the aspects of the Anzac spirit we all revere is the larrikin element; that determination to have fun regardless of the adversity.  And there’s plenty of fun to be involved in tomorrow as well.  Two-up, tug-of-war and cabbage ball for instance, and all this following a free breakfast and some traditional liquid refreshment.

I hope many families, friends and other guests will be able to join us here tomorrow morning for Anzac Day, 2008.

Lest We forget.

Howard Frost

Principal.
