PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

WORKING BEE THANKS:  I was pleased with the roll-up at last Saturday afternoon’s working bee, and with the number of tasks achieved.

We accounted for a myriad of “one off” jobs such as replacing fly screens, repairing leaks in the walkway rooves, repairing leaking pipes, dumping rubbish, cleaning out gutters, and so on, as well as the “annual tasks” of cutting down the ‘sausages’, pruning the shrubs and restoring the EEC sandpit.

The kids were a great help collecting up the prunings and ‘sausages’ and throwing them into the back of the truck.

Worthy of a “special mention” are the Guzowski boys, Tom and Luke, who are now both at high school yet still rode their bikes over to help out their former school.  And didn’t they work!!  What wonderful community spirit they possess!

As promised, the day ended before sunset with drinks and a sausage sizzle.  Thank-you to the new owners of the Kuttabul Butchery, the McLeod family, for donating the five kilos of sausages we managed to munch our way through!

SCHOOL LEADERS:  It’s a bit later than usual, but never-the-less we are now able to let everybody know the results of our Student Council elections for 2007.

In the near future we’ll have a special presentation of badges for these student leaders.

2007 President:               Sarah Smith

2007 Vice – President:  Ellise Burston

2007 Secretary:               Lacey Mackenzie

2007 Treasurer:               Byron Carmichael

At tonight’s disco the leadership team will have its “baptism of fire”, organising and running the event.

ANZAC DAY:  Yes, it’s getting near that time of year already!!  With only two weeks until Easter and then only two weeks after until Anzac Day, now is the time to start planning.

Please help the Moloneys by completing the insert in today’s newsletter and returning it to school before the holidays if possible.

COMPUTER COURSE:  Another return we’d like before Easter also is the “expression of interest” slip attached to the Hail Creek computer course letter.

This is an opportunity to gain free computer competencies thanks to the successful grant submission to the Hail Creek Mine.

At this stage exact days and times are not known, but this should not stop people from registering their interest.  It’s a great opportunity to up-skill in areas of ICTs.

Principal.

SCHOOL NEWS

Parents, friends and relatives are invited to attend.

The date for the Calen Sub—District cross country trials will now be Thursday 03 May.

If you would like to have your child/ren enrol for school banking (Commonwealth Bank) please contact the office for an information pack.

SPORTS TRIALS:  This is certainly a busy time on the sports calendar with even more trial dates being announced!

Interested children in years 6 & 7 have been given information for AFL, BASKETBALL, SOCCER, HOCKEY and TOUCH FOOTBALL this week.

EEC NEWS

Congratulations to our Year Ones who have all read twenty home readers so far this term!  It’s wonderful to see a variety of reading strategies being used to ‘work out’ unknown words during our Literacy groups – reading on, sounding out, making sense, predicting and using one to one correspondence between words.

Our Prep students ‘googled’ helicopters LAst week and were able to find a sight that allowed them to experience a simulated helicopter cockpit with all its instruments, dials and gauges!

Easter is fast approaching and we have begun investigating eggs!  We brainstormed everything we know about eggs, and looked in our non-fiction books with our Reading Buddies for more information.

Preparations will soon be underway for our Easter Hat Parade to be held on the morning of Thursday 5th April.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counsellors, and the most patient of teachers”.

Charles W. Eliot (1834 – 1926) English Educator

EASTER RAFFLE

Yes, we are having an Easter Raffle.  The P & C would like to call for donations towards our Easter Basket.  These can be left in the School Office.  Tickets will be sent home soon with your children.  The raffle will be drawn at the end of the term at our Easter Bonnet Parade.
