PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

HAMPDEN SPORTS DAY:  After two postponements due to poor weather, we couldn’t have asked for a better day than we had last Friday for our inter-house sports day.

The day was a great success in all other ways as well with exciting competition, excellent sportsmanship and good behaviour throughout to impress the large number of spectators on hand.

Congratulations to Pythons House for making it a clean sweep this year, winning the Track and Field Shield as well as the Relay Shield and the Ball Games Shield.

Congratulations also to all our age champions and over-all champions for your outstanding efforts, and also to every other competitors for giving your best efforts at all times.  It certainly made choosing the Encouragement Award very difficult for the staff.

All results from our sports day are recorded on a separate page of this newsletter, as are a selection of pictures from the day.  Log-on to our school web-site to see these in colour.

Finally, I would like to add a special note of thanks to all those who assisted on the day, whether in the tuckshop with Cheryl, or on the oval with measuring, or packing up afterwards.

The staff and I always appreciate your help.

CALEN SPORTS DAY:    By the time you receive this newsletter the preliminary day of the 2007 sub-district sports will be completed (hopefully with some good results for our athletes) and the “main day” will take place tomorrow at Calen.

Best wishes to all our students competing.

Whilst the major aim of the Calen Sports Day is to select a sub-district team to compete at the Mackay District Carnival, we also have as equally important goals for the day the ideals of maximum participation and development of team/school spirit through appreciating the efforts of others and encouraging them to do their best.

Information about Friday was included in last week’s newsletter, and a special note provided by Calen is included today, however important points to note are:

  • Hampden State School is closed on Friday.
  • The school bus will not be running.
  • Children need to be at Calen by 9.00 for a 9.15 start.
  • Hampden uniforms to be worn, with hats and shoes.
  • Parents need to arrange transport to Calen.  (Please notify the school if assistance is required.)
  • Bring lunch or buy from tuckshop there.
  • Adults to bring fold-up chairs.

As the P & C has just outlaid almost $2000 for two new shade structures, you’ll have to look a little harder to recognise the Hampden contingent this year!!

Last year our school was able to come home with both the Relay Shield and the Ballgames Shield, and we’re hoping to do just as well (if not better!) again this year.

The day is always a great way for parents and friends to “network”, and Hampden is always well represented by adults as well as students.

I’m looking forward to yet another enjoyable and successful Calen Sports Day, as I’m sure the students and many of you are as well.

GO HAMPDEN!!

Howard Frost

Principal.

SCHOOL NEWS

SPORTS EXCELLENCE:  Although most of our attention has been on athletics lately, many of our students continue to pursue their own sporting goals with great success.

Congratulations to Jade Barratt who has been selected in the Mackay Boys Softball team, and to two of our rugby league players who have also made Mackay rep. teams, Sean Gee in the 10 year old and Cody Morrison in the 11 year old.

Hopefully these three boys will go on to even greater levels in their sports.

NO COMPUTERS!  Hampden will be “computerless” for much of next week as the school “system” has a complete overhaul by Ed. Qld technicians.

Hopefully not too many of our day to day operations will be too badly affected.

PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS:  These commence on Monday.  If a request for interview has been received these will have been returned via your child to confirm the appointment time.

If in doubt, please phone the school office.

ROCK-POP-MIME:  The first student meeting was help yesterday with an excellent response.

More details on this soon.

Rock Pop Mime takes off next week after a wonderful response to our information session on Wednesday.  Student, staff and parent volunteers have offered their services as co-ordinators, choreographers, hairdressers, dancers, backstage gurus, seamstresses, sound technicians and set designers!  We look forward to being part of such an enthusiastic group.

Practices have been scheduled for Mondays, Fridays and Sundays with the event taking place at 6.30pm on Saturday 1st September.

See you there team!

AUSKICK:  An AUSKICK clinic will run for eight weeks each Wednesday lunchtime, commencing this coming Wednesday.  Additional forms are available at the office.

TREE DAY 2007:  Next Friday is National Tree Day for schools and we will be out in force expanding our plantings from last year.

We have had enough trees donated for our revegetation project to allow every child to plant two this year, and if you would like to join us then please feel welcome.

A separate information flyer will be sent home mid next week.
