PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

TECHNOLOGY LATEST:  Recognising the increasingly important role ICTs play in both teaching and learning, Hampden has for several years been a leading school in the district in acquiring new technology and integrating this into the school’s curriculum program.

This ICT focus is continuing and recent developments include Hampden being in the “One School” trial program as EQ’s “Smart Classrooms” initiative is rolled out.  This includes the “Laptops for Teachers” program and associated professional development aimed at allowing teachers to enhance student outcomes and provide “increased interaction with colleagues, administrators, students, parents and carers through ready access to email, chats and blogs.”

Also, under a newly announced Federal Government initiative, Hampden State School is one of the 81 state schools that will receive broadband services through the Clever Networks ‘Learning Place Access Enhancement Project.’

This is an exciting development not only because of the wide-ranging benefits broadband will bring to the school’s technology capabilities, but also because it promises broadband access to the wider local community as well.

Staff development is a vital component of integrating technology into classrooms, and currently all staff are involved in some form of professional development with an ICT focus, much of which is being done in their own time.

Finally, on this theme, an order has just been placed which will see over $4000 of ICT equipment to be housed in the library for access by all classes.  A feature of this equipment will be an Interactive Whiteboard, the latest in computerised teaching devices.  We’ll invite you for a demo when it’s up and running.

In the meantime, don’t forget the Tuesday night computer classes for adults.  This Tuesday will be the last for the term, will classes re-commencing after the holidays.

Principal.

GROUNDSCARE NEWS

Thank-you to the Lisle family for adding their name to our mowing roster for the last term.

We are still in need of more volunteers to see the roster filled to the end of the year, however.

Mowing can be done on weekends, afternoons during the week, or even during school time when classes are inside, so you can see we’re very flexible to suit your rosters, sport, etc.  Please consider giving a few hours to help keep the school environment safe and attractive.
