PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

WELCOME BACK!  It’s been an exciting start to the new term with seven new children from four new families being enrolled on day one.

A very warm welcome to Hampden to the Scuderi, Lisle, Olsen and Lucas families.  Please consider yourselves invited to every aspect of our community based school.

*          *          *          *          *          *          *

Welcome back to all our returning families as well.  Each term is always busy, and this one will be no different.

Just some of the events on this term’s agenda will be:

  • Hampden Sports Day
  • Calen District Sports Days
  • Tree Day for Schools
  • Auskick Program
  • Book Week
  • Years 3/5/7 Testing Program
  • Parent-Teacher Interviews
  • Optiminds

STAFFING CHANGES:  Currently our cleaner Iris is on long service leave for a month, with her duties being shared by Michelle Leeding and Vicki Faltinsky.  Thank-you to these two ladies for doing this important job in Iris’s absence.

Helen Taylor is currently on a fortnight’s long service leave with her role in the library and with the 6/7 class being provided by Marilyn Gouttman.  Welcome Marilyn.

Later this term Sue Wales will also be taking some well deserved long service as well.

Long serving music specialist Kath Woodruff has now considered retirement to be in her best interests, and the school will receive a replacement specialist for Kath.

Hopefully Kath will still play a role in Hampden’s music program however, as a volunteer.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS:  These will be conducted during week 3 of this term.  Once again Bronwyn Wiseman has agreed to co-ordinate this year’s interviews, for which I thank her.

Parents will be asked to select suitable times from a weekly calendar of slots to be sent home shortly.

SCHOOLS & PARENTS MAG:  This magazine from Ed. Qld accompanies today’s newsletter and contains several short informative articles which are well worth reading.

HAMPDEN SPORTS DAY:  Our “on-again, off-again” sports day is definitely on tomorrow, with no sign of rain about at last!!

The kids are all enthused again, and we’re looking for an exciting day of friendly competition.

Thanks to the P & C and your support of our sports day tuckshop, there are once again many hundreds of dollars worth of ribbons, medallions and trophies available to be won by your children, as if they need any extra motivation!!

Despite the inconveniences caused by the rain affected postponements we’ll hopefully still see lots of parents friends and relatives along tomorrow to support and encourage the children in their events.

CALEN DISTRICT SPORTS DAY:  The postponement of our sports day has telescoped time lines and now means we have only the first 3 days of next week to prepare for the Calen Sports Days.

Please note that the main Calen Sports Day remains unchanged (next Friday 20th July), but the preliminary day (800m, 200m heats and high jumps) will now be on THURSDAY 19TH  July.

All details of the organisation for the Calen Sports Days is contained on an insert in this newsletter, however if you are unsure about any aspect, please give me a call.

Principal.

SCHOOL NEWS

ROCK-POP-MIME:  The parents, staff and other community members who have “bonded” to develop our 2007 RPM entry are making great headway in the “ideas” department and will soon have a routine for us.

Thank-you everyone for your contributions!

AUSKICK:  An AFL Auskick program will run throughout this term here at Hampden from 12:50 to 1:40 each Wednesday.

The Auskick coaches will visit to pass on all the details to the kids this Monday.

TENNIS:  The Alan Harris Tennis School will continue to provide tennis coaching this term, currently on the same days as last term.

COMPUTER COURSES:  The first night of the first module was attended by about 20 participants on Tuesday, will all indicating they had “learned something”!!

If you’re interested, it’s still not too late to come along from 6:30 each Tuesday.

TREE DAY 2007:  This year’s Tree Day for Schools is just over a fortnight away, on Friday July 27.  More info on this next week.

CONGRATULATIONS STEPH:  Former student Stephanie Frost has just been announced as the winner of the year 7/8 story writing competition for this year’s Whitsunday Voices festival.

Good one, Steph!

PIE DRIVE:  How are the year 4-7’s going collecting pie drive orders for school camp?

The children have about 3 weeks left in which to gather orders, with $2 from each order to be deducted from their camp fees.

OPTIMINDS:  The second of the Optiminds workshops was held at the end of last term, and the 2007 team challenges have now arrived.

Decisions on which parts of the competition to enter, and who will be in the team, will be made in the next week.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
