PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

IMPRESSED!  John Wessel, A/Executive Director, spent two hours at Hampden last Friday morning as part of the Region’s continuous evaluation process.

We discussed such details as School Opinion Survey results, Year 2 Net and Yr 3, 5 & 7 Test results, community relations, computer technology, teacher performance, school involvement in activities (eg. Rock Pop Mime / Choir / Green & Healthy Schools / etc.), and a whole range of other inter-related topics.

John was introduced to our Friday morning parade where he participated in the presentation of small gifts to our teacher-aides, commented very favourably on our new school sports uniforms, and watched as one of our Engquest groups gave its presentation.

John was suitably impressed with the school’s performance and said Hampden has a very good reputation across the Mackay-Whitsunday Region.  On parade he said he loved coming here to visit because of the “aura” of the place.

Thank-you to all our parents, staff and other community members for working together to give Hampden its unique character.

NO POWER, NO PHONE!  The four hour power outage last Thursday again reinforced the fact that there’s very little we can do without it!

One of the major headaches that power outages cause for us though, is the lack of communication.

As our school’s phone system is a Commander System, when the power goes down so does our access to incoming and outgoing phone calls.

To overcome this problem the school now has a Telstra Next G mobile, number 0419173429.

Please use this if there appears to be extended periods when the normal 49540189 number is engaged.

ROCK POP MIME:  GOOD LUCK to our RPM team as they attempt to win three consecutive titles tomorrow night at the Soundshell.

Again this year they’ve had the best of support from their coaches, costume and props designers, teachers and parents.

As well, they’ve shown great personal effort and desire to do their best for themselves and the team as a whole.

I’m confident the performance will dazzle both the audience and the judges.

Why don’t you all come along from 5.30pm to support our team’s 2008 production?

Howard Frost

Principal.

SCHOOL NEWS

WANTED – COOKS:  On Sunday the 28th September, (middle Sunday of the holidays) the Holden Car Club is holding its car show in the grounds of the Andergrove Tavern.

Hampden and Farleigh schools have been invited to operate the food tent (barbecue & softdrinks) with profits to be split between the schools.

I’d like to hear from any families who may be able to spend an hour or two between 8.00am and 2.00pm that day to help cook or serve.

CAMP FORMS:  Please try to have all school camp permission/medical forms returned to school by next Friday (last day of term).

Payment is NOT required with these forms and can be made any time up to November 03rd.

Our next edition of the camp newsletter will be sent home next week and will contain the list of “what to take” items.

JUMP ROPE:  Unfortunately Jump Rope co-ordinator Mrs Uhlmann had to postpone her visit last Friday.  She plans to return early in term 4, however.

CONGRATULATIONS, YR 6:  The Year 6’s took their responsibility for organising the Term 3 Disco very seriously, and are to be congratulated for their efforts.

Their theme Masquerade was novel, and their planning and hard work ensured everyone had a great night.

CHOIR – “ON SONG”:  The choir is sounding very melodious and are on track for an excellent performance at the Eisteddfod after the holidays.

Choir teacher Kath Woodruff has requested the children wear the following as their uniform this year:

  • Sports Shirt
  • Navy Blue Shorts/Skorts/Skirts
  • White Socks
  • Black Shoes

Please use the forthcoming holidays to scout around for items to borrow (eg black shoes) if you don’t already have these.

ENGQUEST:  Last week we saw presentations from the second of our two “catapult groups”, as well as our “straw bridge group”.

See today’s lift-out for full details on these projects.

FREE DRESS DAY:  Thank-you for your support of the Student Council’s free dress day last Friday.  $82 was raised for Cancer research.

THANK-YOU LAKES:  On a section of the old cane plot recently ploughed by Frank Perna, the Students Council have planted pumpkins, watermelons, and two types of cucumbers.

The pumpkin seeds have already sprouted, and I’m confident the rest won’t be far behind.

A special thank-you to the Lake family for donating the seeds and fertiliser for this project.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.

LIBRARY NOTICE

It would be appreciated if all library books could be returned before the holidays.
