Parents
& Citizens’ Assn meets 3rd Monday of each month at

ANZAC DAY 2008: All
media reports this year spoke of the continuing revival of interest across
This was certainly evident here at Hampden again this year as over 500 adults and children gathered to honour those who have served, and who are serving this nation in foreign battlefields.
Anzac Day at Hampden is special in so many ways, not least of which I believe, is because of the sense of community which prevails. No doubt the sense of community – respect, mateship, trust, mutual support, dependability – the list goes on, helped define the Anzac Spirit at Gallipoli and maintains it through modern times.
Thank-you to all our parents and staff for the important roles you play in supporting the organisers of the Kuttabul Anzac Day celebrations. Without the involvement of the children the day wouldn’t be the same, and neither would their understanding of the significance of Anzac Day to our nation.
Besides, despite the early start to the day they all seem to enjoy it! As one of our young students remarked, “Anzac Day is the best school day of the year.”
BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT AWARDS: Each term children who remain on levels 0 or 1 receive a “good behaviour” certificate to reward them for their co-operation and positive attitude towards following the school rules. At the end of each semester (2 terms) a special reward is funded by the P & C for children with both certificates.
The end of semester 1 reward this year will be an invitation to a SCHOOL SLEEPOVER.
Term 1’s Behaviour management certificates were handed out this week, and for the first time I can remember every child received one!
Please congratulate your children on their very good behaviour and encourage them to maintain this throughout second term as well.
Howard Frost
Principal.

ACTIVE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM: This program commences for term 2 with CIRCUS this coming Tuesday, then continues for the remainder of the term with MULTI SKILL GAMES each Monday as well.
Enrolment forms were sent home last week, and we have had a good response already.
Children may elect to do one or both of these two options.
The routine for these afternoons will be the same as for term 1, namely a 15 minute afternoon tea break with a drink and healthy snack provided free of charge, followed by the activity session from 3:15 to 4:15.
Parents are responsible for arranging transport home at the completion of each session.
ROSIE L.S.L.: Rosie Dittman will be off to the State Table Tennis Trials in Bundaberg next week. Good Luck Miss D!!
While Rosie is on a week’s leave Kerri-Ann Cahill will relieve in the teacher-aide position.
SPORTS TRIALS: This week we’ve had Hockey and Touch Football; next week its soccer and tennis! Good luck to our many Hampden participants in these trials. STOP PRESS: Congratulations to Chelsea Perna who has just been selected in the Mackay District girls hockey team.
FAREWELL LISHA: I’d
like to express my appreciation to the Smith family for their support of
Hampden over many years, and wish Lisha all the best at
REMINDERS: Both Bookclub and the Community Software orders have to be dispatched next week so we will not be able to accept late orders past Wednesday 07 May.
SPORTS SHIRT PRINTING: We’re gearing up to print these shirts (at least Julie Burns and Lorraine Insch are!) so send any requiring printing is as soon as possible please.
WELL DONE DEXTER! Congratulations to Dexter Edmonds who came a close 6th at the recent Capricornia Cross Country Trials at Springsure, and is first reserve for the Capricornia team.

Hello Everyone
Lots of excitement and learning in Prep/Year One this week as we investigate our outside environment. Miss Dittman and the Prep children went on a nature walk and took photos of all the insects and mini beasts they could find. Then they downloaded the photos and looked at them on our new interactive whiteboard! We also used the interactive Whiteboard to look closely at worms and snakes, and make comparisons. We read “Stellaluna” and compared birds and bats. To help us organise our information we have begun to use tables.

Mrs Wales’ classroom display of once-living creatures was fascinating. (Thank you Mrs Wales and Year 4/5 for allowing us to visit you!) Now we can talk about and compare living, non-living and once living things.

This is the first correspondence since the return to school for term 2, so I hope everyone had a good break. First of all I would like to thank everyone who helped on ANZAC Day , the Damper/BBQ cooks, the ladies in the tuckshop who prepared the food, all involved in the organisation and training of the kids for the singing and entertainment and those who I have forgotten to mention. The Mackay Cutters Football side have home games for the next three weekends and we are in need of volunteers to man the bars. Especially this long weekend as there is a carnival on as well and we have to maintain the bars for the three days. If you can spare a few hours this weekend, or any of the next three, please get into contact with Karen Gee and help the P&C raise money for our school. Hope to see you at the footy!
Cheers
Rex Munchow
P&C Secretary
GROUNDSCARE NEWS
Well we’ve reached the end of yet another month and it’s time to change our groundscare volunteer groups.
A big thank-you goes to the Leeding family and Chris Perna’s family for maintaining our grounds during April and having them look so good for our Anzac Day visitors.
Thank-you also to Frank Perna for bringing up his tractor to rotary hoe our long jump pits in preparation for Sports Day.
On roster for May are the Lisle and Patchett families.
Thanks for your continuing support everyone.
Kathy Frost
Co-ordinator.
